TitlePower of attorney given by John Greene of Falmouth, commander of H.M. Ship Spanish Alliance, and Jane, his wife, to Amerideth (sic) Workman of the county of Armagh to enter the possessions of the late Rev. John Arthur, D.D., in the island of Anglesey, survey them with exactness, and sell them to such persons for such sum and sums of money as shall be thought most meet and convenient "to the utmost and best comodity and profitt of the said John Green and Jane", hand over deeds, and issue acquittances
DescriptionMore interesting are the details supplied about the family of Dr Arthur: seised at the time of his death [at Newry in Ireland] of an estate of inheritance in fee simple in the parishes of Llangadwaladr and Pentraeth; had issue sons John and Hugh (both died without issue) and daughters Elizabeth, Frances, Mary and Jane [wife of Captain John Greene] - each, therefore, receieve a fourth part of their father's lands; the attorney Workman is to concern himself with Jane's fourth part only.
The document is full of inexactitudes. John Green according to the scribe; John Greene at the foot; Llangadwaladr is placed in the county of Caernarvon; part of the lands are called by the term Pentraeh [Pentraeth].
Amerideth is a rather curious way of spelling Meredith
