Disgrifiad | In March 1849, there comes a petition from the inhabitants of Menai Bridge requesting land on which to build a British school; on this and on the Welsh educational system in general, the opinion of C.H. Evans of Plas Gwyn, the local agent of the Plas Newydd estate, weighed sufficiently with Thomas Beer, Sanderson's successor as chief agent, to quash the project (3034-3041). The tenant of the Uxbridge Arms at Caernarvon seeks permission to extend the premises in view of the expected increase in the demand for accommodation consequent on the completion of the Bangor - Caernarvon Railway. (3042-7). The congregation of Hyfrydle Chapel, Holyhead, tender their thanks for teh gift of a building site (3037). Much about lease-holds at Cerrig-y-Borth; the extension of the cemetery at Amlwch; sidelights on the affairs of the Gallt y Llan Quarry and its lately ejected lessees (3098-3116 see also 3138-3182 below). In 1855 the post of local agent of the estate becomes vacant as a result of the death of C.H. Evans of Plas Gwyn and the aspirants to the post are not slow in tendering their applications (3117-3137). |
