AdminHistory | Papers relating to another of the Marquess' industrial enterprises. A lease of this colliery, which is situated on the edge of the Malltraeth Marsh in the parish of Llanfihangel esceifiog, was granted in 1831 to a company of adventurers headed by one Thomas Hughes of Rhos y medre, denbighshire. As these papers show, the company worked it - rather inefficiently and wastefully it seems - until 1846 when they were ejected on the grounds of damages inflicted to the Marquess' property, wasteful and erratic working of the mine, and non-payment of royalties. |
