| Disgrifiad | The exchange of new for old silver coinage in 1817 causes some inconvenience to the inhabitants of Anglesey (3384-5), 3389-90). The Summer of 1821 finds the whole island on tiptoe in expectation of the visit of King George IV. There are suggestions for the erection of a triumphal arch at Holyhead in honour of the occasion, and for firing a salvo of explosive charges on Ynys Madog Goch in the Swellies (3408-3414). Nor are the Calvinistic Methodists of Anglesey behind in their protestations of loyalty (3410). Three more county addresses are included : to the Princess Charlotte and Prince Leopold of Saxe Coburg on the occasion of their marriage (3387); to King George IV sympathising with him on the death of George III, and congratulating him on his accession to the throne (3402); and to the Marquess of Anglesey, on his appointment as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland (3452) |
