TitleBorough Election of 1832 (Sir Charles Pages 410, Major Owen Jones Ellis Nanney 363)
Correspondence
DescriptionRelating to the petition presented to Parliament by the supporters of Sir Charles Paget against the amended return of O.J.E. Nanney. "The object of the petition", writes Lord Uxbridge to his father the Marquess, "is at once to enter into all the rights of voting in the different boroughs, and finally proving a majority for or againts us" (227). Furthermore, "if such petition should be succesful as to the right of election contended for viz : that it is in the inhabitants paying scot and lot in contradistinction to the admitted burgesses or freemen not being scot and lot inhabitants, the (Paget's supporters) allege that the interest which supports Sir Charles Paget will so greatly preponderate as to ensure success on the present occasion and at least for many years to come" (228). The petition was succesful; the whole case was re-opened and the Pwllheli votes case for Paget and previously declared illegal were adjudged to be valid.
