TitleCounty Election of 1784 -
Copy letter from Lord Newborough at Florence to ?
DescriptionVents his spleen on his agent Samuel Price for neglecting to send him his remittances and for attempting to betray his interes to "that infamous fellow John Parry", whose conduct in influencing Mr Asheton Smith in the last election (1780) was the sole cause of the writer's defeat. Charges his correspondent to exert all the writer's friends, tenants and independent free holders to support him, and to warn his tenants of the consequences of voting for Parry. He will not see his native county stained with a repetition of such a disgrace. Is persuaded that the county will elect him, remembering the persecutions he has suffered for opposing the "disgraceful American War", and permit him to end his life as he began it "in the service of my country".
