DisgrifiadThe early months of 1806 find the Volunteer Corps faced with a substantial deficit in its accounts, and soliciting aid from the gentry towards meeting its creditors (872, 876). There is, moreover, some initial difficulty over the matter of pay and allowances claimed for the period when the corps was out on permanent duty in 1804 : thus, however, is satisfactorily settled by the War Office in June (873, 874, 875, 878, 879). As for the militia proper, Whitehall finds occasion in November to issue a reproof to the local authorities for being behind hand with their returns (884, 885, 887)
