DescriptionMuch of the militia business transacted this year has to do with the making of retunes to the Privy Council oft he able-bodied men in teh country. At the same time considerable dissatisfaction is expressed over the excessive proportion of men which Angleseu is called upon to furnish under the Supplementary Militia Act; a petition to Parliament is drawn up seeking redress (596,597), but this is later dropped upon the advice of the Lord Lieutenant, the Earl of Uxbridge, who lays the county's grievances before Pitt himself. The quota ultimately fixed upon for Anglesey amounts to one sixth of the total number of able-bodied men (616). On the 26th December the principal inhabitants of Amlwch, "at this critical period... exciting ourselves for the protection of evrything deer to us"., address a letter to the Lord Lieutenant proposing that they should enrol themselves in a corps of colunteers to be called the Loyal Twrcelyn Volunteers (620). 627 furnishes an interesting "List of persons who have enrolled themselves to serve in the Corps of Fencibles established in teh County of Anglesey", including particulars of residence, parish and occupation.
