DescriptionWilliams' allegations have been investigated and found to be quite unfounded; both Dr Sparrow and the Deputy-Lieutenants mean to prosecute him for libel. Incidentally, it transpires that Williams is a schoolmaster at Pentraeth and a native of Merionethshire. (850)
Another threat of invasion in 1803 finds the island again resuming "her former ardour to bear arms in the support of the best Kings and Constitution" (861). In July the inhabitants "deeply impressed with a sense of public duty" beg leave to address His Majestry "at this momentus crisis", pledging themselves to "exert their utmost efforts to repel every attempt at Invation" (858). Meanwhile, another and more insidious enemy, "what they call the influenza" has been busily ravaging the county in the Spring of 1803, "not a family have escaped" (853)
