Description | The Regatta again (1234, 1236, 1239), Hugh Owen, secretary of the 1849 Aberffraw Royal Eisteddfod, prevails upon the Marquess to become one of its Vice-Presidents; it is "likely to be the largest ever held in Wales" (1238). In 1855 again, his Lordship accepts the Presidency of the Anglesey Auxilliary Bible Society at the insistence of its indefatiguable secretary Henry Griffith, perpetual curate of Llandrygarn and that lowest of low churchmen who deigned to officiate at the burial of John Elias in 1841 (1242,1244). 1861 brings appeals for financial support for the Pensarn school serving the "dense mining population" of the parishes of Llaneilian and Llanwenllwyfo (1247-1254). And in August, 1877, Llansadwrn, wishing to avoid the expense of a school board, proposes to build a school on the voluntary system (1259) |
