DescriptionThe Queen being expected to sail down the Straits in the Summer of 1847, William Roberts the Deputy Constable received orders to fire a royal salute, to hoist the royal standard, and to prepare a suitable address if her Majesty should happen to land (1282). Meanwhile, the correspondence regarding the restoration of the castle continues. A proposal to build a protective wall around the whole structure meets with disapproval from the townspeople, who want a low curb and a rail. A suggestion that the moat should be re-opened is also considered, and support for this scheme is expected from the Cambrian Archaeological association which is meeting in Caernarvon inthe Summer of 1848 (1293). The ultimate decision, however, is to build a low wall with a coping and iron rail.
