TitleLetters from John Lewis, Vicar of Llanfechell to Lord Uxbridge
DescriptionThe first (5 August) apologises for his inablility, on the grounds of ill health and old age, to attend his Lordships' election and is accompanied by a long and somewhat involved statement setting forth certain injustices which he alleges to have suffered in the course of his career at the hands of some of the Bishops of Bangor; it contains a brief but interesting reference to the "infamous pamphlet" published against Bishop Warren (the celebrated "Shôn Gwialan" letter, whose authorship has been attributed by some authorities to Thomas Williams of Llanidan). The second letter (3 December 1830) again touching upon his misfortunes, brings to his Lordship's notice his son, the Rev. William Lewis of Trosymarian of "some standing in the Church", but alas, with no preferment.
