TitleLetters, reports, estimates etc. from Thomas Harrison, Hugh Price, John Cooper and William Peacock relating to extensive alterations and improvements to the main structure of Plas Newydd and outbuildings which were commenced in 1783 and completed in 1785.
DescriptionThe work was apparently carried out by John Cooper and included the re-building of the North Tower in "octagon fashion" with Gothic windows to harmonize with it; finishing the kitchen, completing the battlemented parapet, as well as a large amount of interior renovation (see 2790). The building of the tables and coach houses is taken in hane in 1792 under the supervision of William Peacock. (he writes from Fort Caesar and is undoubtedly to be identified with the Colonel William Peacock, later of Plas Llanfair). Liverpool, he insists, is the "best and most reasonable market" for building material; as little as possible should be bought at Caernarvon - "they are such a set of Jews"
