DescriptionThese papers take us as far as 1860. The dispute with the old company of adventurers ended in September 1847, when they were obliged to surrender the lease which they had held since 1831. At the same time an offer to take the colliery is received from a Caernarvon Company but owing to some difficulty over the terms it is not until February 1849 that the lease is finally signed. The new company operate for three years only and in March 1852 give notice of their intention to surrender the lease, having worked the mine at a great loss and in the face of grave disadvantages (flooding, faults in the seams etc.) They beg permission, however, to open in to the small coal on Lord Anglesey's property in Malltraeth and Llantraeth, and in November 1852, they are given a lease for 21 years of Fferman Bailey and Tynewydd in Trefdraeth for the purpose of working small coal for engine fuel.
