| Description | Both Hugh Ellis and John Evans served the office of clerk to the Commissioners for the Sale of the Land Tax, but it happens that most of the papers that have been preserved in this connection are those of Hugh Ellis's period. Besides letters and redemption accounts of a few individual properties they contain a very valuable series of land tax assessments. The earliest is that for Llanllechid in 1772 and the latest that for Llanbeblig in 1828. Between them lie the assessments for the greater part of the county in 1783, those for Eifionydd and Uwch Gwyrfai in 1789, Lleyn in 1802, Is and Uwch Gwyrfai in 1824 as well as those for several individual parishes at various years. |
