Description | This miscellaneous group illustrates various developments in the town of Caernarfon during the period of its greatest expansion.
Some of the papers are the direct result of that expansion, for example, the copy of the counsel's opinion on the state of the borough (1819-1820), the presentment of the borough in 1820, the waterworks bill (1824) and the bill for lighting and paving of 1826-1827.
Others are the indirect outcome of it, such as the subscription lists towards erecting bathing machines (1812), the petition for a daily post and the resolutions for establishing a day school (1819).
Others again are semi political in character, such as the petition for the convening of a meeting in support of the established church or that for a public meeting to petition for the repeal of the house and window duties. |
