| Description | The papers that deal with the erection of a new county gaol in 1796 have been included in this group, though they are the outcome of county treasurer activities. They consist of specificatios, estimates, valuations and mortgage accounts from 1796 to 1808.
The reports of visiting magistrates for several later years and the specifications of improvements in 1832 are also included. In the matter of prisoners the papers are those dealing with the removal of convicts to the hulks during intermittent years from 1804 to 1833, a list book of criminals taken into custody from 1815 to 1833, a register of debtors confined in the gaol in 1817 and such occasional documents as the grievances of the imprisoned debtors in 1818 and the petittion of the prisoners for coal in 1823. |
