TeitlCrown Rents
DisgrifiadHugh Elis was appointed received of crown rents in 1788 amd it appears as if he was succeeded in the office by John and Evan Evans. No document pointing to the definite appointment of either of them has been preserved among the papers, nevertheless the amplitude of the papers themselves together with the familiar terms on which they stood with the crown revenue officers point strongly to the existance of an appointment.
The copy of the parliamentay survey of Caernarvonshire in 1650 and the copy of Lord Penrhyn's petition for a grant of the waste in Llanllechid in 1783 are two documents of interest during the period before 1788. The remainder extend to 1834 and they cover most aspects of the administrative side of collecting king's rents.
Occassionally, papers of particular interest are met with; for exmple, those dealing with the sale in 1821 of the allotments whish had accumulated to the Crown under various enlosure acts in North Wales; the drive to recover arrears in 1822 has yielded valuable rentals of arrears reverting to mid 18th century and the normal audit business in 1827 yielded interesting accounts of the working of the Merionethshire Royal Mine, Llanfachraeth.
