| Disgrifiad | While hardly of these papers deal directly with the famous ventures at Tremadoc, they will nevertheless serve to correct the estimate of Madock's activities that is usually accepted. For they give the background of litigation in which the overweening adventurer foud himself involved, and it may be presumed that the few papers of a more general interest are incidental to the action papers. These consist of a rental in 1807 of the Caernarvonshire estate purchased by Madocks, and another rental in 1814 of the estates mortgaged; in addition there are undated rentals of the Penamser and Cwmstradllyn estates in Caernarvonshire, the Dolmelynllyn estate in Merioneth, and the Plas Einion and Glan Hespen estate in Denbighshire. His extensive commitments caused several actions to be brought against him, the most troublesome being the connection with an annuity to issue out of the Cwmstradllyn estate.
