AdminHistory | From his years at Tallarn Green in the 1940s until his final years at Aberdaron and Y Rhiw, R.S. Thomas was an avid bird-watcher. He was a friend of the distinguished naturalist William Condry from the 1950s, and it was indeed Condry who alerted him to the fact that the living of St Michael and All Angels, Eglwys-fach, was vacant in 1954. When R.S. Thomas moved to Eglwys-fach, the two men became even closer friends. They were both involved in the development of the Bird Observatory on Bardsey - a special place for R.S. Thomas, and the subject of several poems and prose pieces. R.S. Thomas also joined Pwyllgor Gwarchod y Barcud - the Committee for the Protection of the Red Kite. |
