Title | Diary of Robert Lloyd as First Lieut. in the 50th Company during a good part of the expedition to Martinique in the West Indies at the end of the Seven Years War (for the operation of 1761-1763, see Pol. Hist. England, X,37, and D.N.B., sub Admiral Rodney, XLIX,82) |
Description | Brigade orders on land, and at least one court-martial (the result of which is not given). Much more interesting than the somewhat prosy routine orders is the memorandum at the beginning of the letters sent to friends and relatives in June-July 1762, two to John Lloyd the chemist who lived 'in Coventry Street near Piccadilly', whose friendship and business relations with the Trallwyn family proved in TRALL/10: two to 'sister Carreg'; for some reason he has no memo. of the letter he sent to his brother William (TRALL/56). Quite interesting too is the list of gifts (this will be found near the end) sent from the Indies to friends: coffee to Sir John Wynn, 40 gallon cask of rum to Robert Carreg of Caernarvon, two dozen bottles of 'arrack' to John Lloyd, and 20 gallons of Barbados spirit to his brother William at 'Penrallt near Bangor'. |
