Description | (i) 1936 February 29 Letter : Norah Kenrick at The Grove, Harborne, Birmingham, to her cousin Hubert [Wynn Kenrick] at Wynn Hall. Encloses pedigree of Alice Coetmore alias Coedmore, the alleged original owner of Wynn Hall. References to a relation (John Coddington of Harvard University), a descendant of Ralph Eddowes who married Sarah Kenrick in 1777, and who went to Philadelphia in 1794; to the descent of the Woore Kenrick from Sir David Kenrick reputed standard bearer to the Black Prince; to the links between Jane Wynn and the Bulkeleys; the comparatively modest Kenrick yeoman stock as compared with the " 'county folk' " - the Wynnes and Coetmores. Her inability so far to find a Quarrel pedigree. Good wishes. (ii) 1938 - 1949 Letters (12) : Norah Kenrick, wife of Hugh Kenrick at Harborne, Birmingham, to her cousin Mrs Marion Kenrick [at Wynn Hall]. N K produced a book on the history of the Kenrick family. 2 letters are pre-war, and addressed "Dear Mrs. Kenrick"; remainder "Dear Marion". A recurring theme is the family history : the Eddowes branch (U.S.A.); the Australia Kenricks, James and Samuel Kenrick [of Bewdly], the bankers; notes on other ancestors; tomb inscriptions in Ruthin church; ancestry of Hugh Wynn Efenechtyd who married Alice Coetmor, and whose son William built Wynn Hall; notes on present-day Kenricks etc. Gives a vivid picture of wartime life (the bombing; having husband and son in the Army; etc.) and the rigours of victorious Britain in the Forties (austerity in food and fuel etc.) Writes of visits to Wynn Hall, Hengwrt etc.; her recollections of the snows of 1895 (this amid the snows of 1947!); the imminent coming of electric light and heating to Wynn Hall. Also encloses shots as follows : Mary (née Quarrel), wife of the 2nd John Kenrick; Martha (née Kenrick), wife of the Rev. Jones Parry; Archibald Kenrick, son of the 2nd John Kenrick; the latter himself; and Rebecca (née Smith), wife of Archibald Kenrick. 12 letters and 5 photographs (iii) 1940 - 1955 Letters(i) 1936 February 29 LETTER : Norah Kenrick at The Grove, Harborne, Birmingham, to her cousin Hubert [Wynn Kenrick] at Wynn Hall.
