2 - Debts of Francis Bulkeley
1811-2 - Early commitments of Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel bond of obligation in £500 (8 April,1702) to John Griffith Lewis of Llangwyllog; another to the same gentleman in £140 (4 January, 1704-5), with his mother Mary Bulkeley and his sister Jane Meyrick of Bodorgan as sureties. More or less regular payments of interest on both bonds.
1813 - Bond of obligation in £160 by Mary Bulkeley of Plas Llangefni [mother of Francis Bulkeley, widow of Rowland Bulkeley of Porthamel, daughter of Richard Owen Tudur of Penmynydd], Francis Bulkeley, Jane Meyrick of Bodorgan [sister of Francis], Alice Bulkeley [another sister], to William Robyns of Caernarvon to pay him £80 on 1 October next ensuing
1814 - Another early commitment of Franics Bulkeley bond in a £100 to Rowland Jones of Treffos
1815-8 - Documents relating to mortgage by Francis Bulkeley including a deed of mortgage, its counterpart, a lease under the Statute of Uses, and a bond of obligation in £3,300, relating to a mortgage by Francis Bulkeley to John Edmunds of Penrhyn, co. Carn., to secure £1,650 (19 & 20 0ct., 1705)
1819 - Bond of obligation by Jane Meyrick, widow, to stand by the award of Sir Richard Bulkeley (see doct. 1820) upon any differences that may [or have?] arisen between the aforesaid Jane Meyrick and her brother Francis Bulkeley, she having entered into a bond with him for £6,000, on 30 July, 1706, to pay his debts, - the award to be made before 1 Sept. next ensuing
1820 - Arbitrament and award of Sir Richard Bulkeley of Ye Old Barn ["Bawne"], co. Dublin, upon differences that are “likely to arise and ensue" between Jane Meyrick, widow, of Richard Meyrick of Bodorgan, and her brother Francis [of Porthamel and Llangefni] he who entered into a phenomenal number of bonds of obligation, eventually brought an unhappy death to himself, and endless trouble to a large number of creditors; anyone who has examined the numerous bonds in which his sister Jane is joined with himself is not surprised at the difficulties that were very likely to arise
1821-8 - Deed of mortgage by Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel to Cadwaladr Williams of Beaumaris to secure £450. On 2 & 3 March, 1712-3, C.W. assigned the mortgage to Richard Greene, apothecary of Beaumaris; on 4 January, 1714-5, Greene assigned it to Henry Powell of Vaynol, co. Carnarvonshire
1829-31 - Financial transactions between Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel and his sister Jane Meyrick of Bodorgan, mainly in order to secure from her £900
1832 - Bond of obligation in £600 by Francis Bulkeley of Llangefni to William Luke of Bryngo Isa to pay the latter £300 on 1 May, 1708. Within is a record of interest paid up to 10 Sept., 1714
1833-4 - Two assignments of debt-judgements at Great Sessions to Mr Ambrose Lewis of Cemlyn - one on 26 Jan., 1708-9, the other on 3 Febr., 1714-5
1835-6 - Bond of obligation in £1,060 by Francis Bulkeley of Llangefni to sir Thomas Holland of Berw that he shall well and truly pay £530 to him upon 1 Sept., next ensuing
1837-40 - Deed of mortgage by Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel to Ambrose Lewis of Cemlyn to secure £2,000. Four documents including a counterpart and a bond of obligation in £4,000 and over
1841 - Copy of judgement obtained by William Robyns against Francis Bulkeley at the Anglesey Great Sessions
1842-5 - Further mortgage by Francis Bulkeley to John Edmunds of Penrhyn to secure £1,200
1846 - Judgement obtained at the Beaumaris Great Sessions against Francis Bulkeley by Rowland Jones of Treffos. This was not a large debt, but had amounted to £100 by 1722
1847 - Writ of attachment from the Great Sessions to the Sheriff of Anglesey for the arrest of Francis Bulkeley, or Porthamel, and his appearance before the court
1848-9 - Pleadings in the Great Sessions of Anglesey in an action for a debt of £140 between Griffith Williams, gent., plaintiff, executor of John Griffith Lewis, gent., deceased, and Francis Bulkeley of Llangefni alias Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel, esq., defendant
1850-62 - Assignment of a mortgage made by Francis Bulkeley to William Jones of Pentraeth (14 & 15 Febr., 1698-1699) to Thomas Roberts of Bodior to secune £550, afterwards assigned by T.R. to Hugh Jones of Trefollwyn
1863 - "The Defeazance of a Judgment acknowledged by Mr Bucknell [mistake for Bulkeley] to Henry Powell [of Vaynol]"
1864 - Judgment for debt at Great Sessions against Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel at the instance of William Luke, yeoman
1865 - Articles of agreement between Francis Bulkeley and Richard, Lord Bulkeley
1866 - Declaration amounting to a bill of sales by Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel and Llangefni, to Henry Powell of Vaynol, present husband of Margaret, relict and executrix of John Edmunds of Penrhyn, to whom interest on bonds signed by Francis Bulkeley, amount to no less than £600 - that he may take possession of all ricks and "stocks" of corn and hay, besides horses, cattle and other stock, on the premises of Porthamel and Plas Llangefni

1870 - Deed of assignment of mortgage originally made by Francis Bulkeley of Llangefni on 20 Sept., 1706, to his sister Jane Meyrick of Bodorgan, from the aforesaid Jane to Henry Betts of Lincoln's Inn; lands concerned were the mansion house of Penmynydd, together with the demesne lands, mill and kiln, and also the two farms of Dyffryn Ucha and Dyffryn Isa
1871-8 - Letters relating to the Porthamel debt difficulties, interviews with Chancery officials, disagreements over the estimates of yearly rents - all preparatory to the new responsibilities to be undertaken in the matter by Richard, fourth Lord Bulkeley
1879-81 - Judgment assigned to Maurice Lewis in trust for Lord Bulkeley: creditor Thomas Jones of Beaumaris; sum paid by Lord Bulkeley on Aug. 3,1722 - £557.10.0. Three documents in all: the original bond, the judgment at Great Sessions, and this final settlement
1882 - Assignment of judgement against the late Francis Bulkeley to Maurice Lewis in trust for Richard, Lord Bulkeley; creditor, William Luke of Bryngo Isa; receives £445 from Lord Bulkeley.
1883 - Assignment of Great Sessions judgements against the late Francis Bulkeley (22 Aug., 1712) to Maurice Lewis, in trust for Richard, Lord Bulkeley, to pay the debts on two bonds originally due to John Griffith Lewis of Llangwyllog, and now due to Griffith Williams of Llangristiolus as his ancestor (the money is ultimately to go to Hugh Jones of Cerrig Ddewi, to whom J.G.L. had bequeathed his interest in the bonds, on condition that H.J. would, on the marriage of his sister Alice, give her £100 as marriage-portion; Alice has married and the £100 paid. In any case, the dorse definitely says that Lord Bulkeley had to pay £482.13.0. to Hugh Jones)
1884-8 - Assignment of judgement in the Porthamel debts to Maurice Lewis in trust for Lord Bulkeley; original creditor was John Lloyd of Llanbedr, co. Denbigh, who in Trinity Term, 6 Anne, secured judgement at the Court of Common Pleas at Westminster; after his decease, Margaret his daughter and executrix (who had married Robert Wynne, a Denbigh stonecutter, but who signs his name as a very superior stonecutter indeed) Succeeded to his assets, and received from Lord Bulkeley £336.5.0. on 18 Sept.,1722
1889-96 - Assignments of judgements against Francis Bulkeley, deceased, to Maurice Lewis of Trysglwyn and the Middle Temple, in trust for Richard, fourth Viscount Bulkeley (21 Sept., 1722 - 14 March, 1722-23)
1897-8 - Deed of mortgage by Richard, Lord Bulkeley, to William Jones the younger of Plas Gwyn [and Town Clerk of Beaumaris], the latter being one of the executors of his aunt, Myfanwy [Methanwy] Williams of Plas Llandegfan, who had become one of the numerous creditors of Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel.
1899-903 - Assignment of judgement in the matter of the Porthamel debts to Maurice Lewis in trust for Richard, Lord Bulkeley; the original creditor was Anne Williams of Llannefydd, co. Denbigh, spinster [later of the city of Chester]; after obtaining judgement at Great Sessions, she assigned the debt to William Jones the younger of Pentraeth (5 Novr., 1717); on the dorse of this present assignment is a memo. that W.J. has received £174 (but £174.10.0. on the margin) from Lord Bulkeley
1904-6 - Assignments of judgements over the Porthamel debts to Maurice Lewis, etc.; original creditor, Margaret Lewis of Llandegfan, whose assets are now administered by Robert Lewis of Carnau; judgement at Westminster, Trinity Term, 1707; sum now paid by Lord Bulkeley, £348.5.0.
1907-9 - Debt of Francis Bulkeley
1910-2 - Another assignment of judgement in the matter of the Porthamel debts to Maurice Lewis in trust to Richard, Lord Bulkeley; creditor, Richard Owen of Penmon and Doulse his wife (she now deceased); on 24 Sept., 1722, receives £220 from Lord Bulkeley
1913 - Indenture describing the sad financial straits of Francis Bulkeley of Llangefni and Porthamel who committed suicide by shooting himself in 1714
1914-5 - Papers relating to the debt due from Francis Bulkeley to Thomas Holland of Berw, clerk [rector of Marchwiel, co. Denbigh]: one a bond of obligation (13 Oct., 1722) by Lord Bulkeley to pay a certain sum; another (3 November) a memo by his Lordship, that, if a Master of the Court of Chancery proves that more than this sum is due, it will be "made up" to Mr Holland
1916 - Assigned judgement to Maurice Lewis in trust for Lord Bulkeley; creditor, thomas Holland, rector of Marchwiel (one of the Hollands of Berw, Pedigrees, 110); actual sum paid by Lord Bulkeley, £929.10.10.
1917 - Richard, fourth Lord Bulkeley, and the many debts of Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel
1918-25 - Two assignments of judgement [given this time at the Court of Common Pleas] against Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel to Maurice Lewis in trust for Richard, Lord Bulkeley; the creditors were Richard Bulkeley of Glan y Gors [son, presumably, of William Bulkeley of Lledwigan, grandson to Tristram Bulkeley who was half-brother to the third Sir Richard Bulkeley] and his son Robert, once of Clifford's Inn, but now of Coedan in Anglesey; on 25 Oct., 1722, there was paid to this Robert Bulkeley £513 by Lord Bulkeley
1926-8 - Indenture between the surviving executors and devisees of the real estate of Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel (Francis Edwards of Penhesgin; Henry Rowlands, clerk, author of Mona Antiqua; and William Bold of Llanedwen) and Richard, third Lord Bulkeley; sale of the manor of Penmynydd and other interests for £21,600. Special reference to the Chancery decree of 30 June 1718
1929 - Certificate by one of the Masters in Chancery, E. Conway, that he has delivered unto Mr Hugh Price [attorney of Beaumaris] for the use of Lord Bulkeley, a schedule of the deeds and evidences pertaining to the purchased estate [of Francis Bulkeley of Porthamel, deceased]
