  <dc:description>Large sums to the poor, a proof of the exceeding economic constriction of the Napoleonic wars: there are entries of £1.1.0. and £1.10.0. for the poor of Beaumaris (both in January), £1.10.6. and £1.5.0. in March, and £1.4.0. in June; also to the poor of Llaniestyn, Llanddona, Penmon and Caernarvon; heavy sums for travelling by coach to Buxton, Lichfield and London; several losses at cards. Interspersed with these are 1/- "gave a miner to drink", £1.1.0. to a "chimney doctor" in London, i.e., a chimney sweeper who professed he was able to cure smoking chimneys, and £2.2.0. to "Mr Pugh a distressful clergyman" (this on Aug.25).
