  <dc:title>Notes by J. Martin Cleary of Wrexham on the Welsh association of Dr. William Gifford (he was  a grandson of Sir. George Throckmorton of Coughton Court, Warwickshire, and nephew of Sir. John Throckmorton (d.1580), vice-president of the Council of Wales and the Marches and a key figure from the viewpoint of Welshrecusant history; Sir. John's brother-in-law was John Edwards of Plas Newydd yn y Waun, Chirkland, a staunch recusant; another member of the Welsh gentry, Cadwaladr Wynn of Foelas, Denbighshire, had married Winifred Throckmorton, niece of Sir. John; while the priest Thomas Vaughan of Courtfield who died at Cardiff in 1646 describes himself as a nephew of Dr. Gifford.
