Disgrifiad | Note at beginning of Vol. I in G. R.'s hand describing provenance: probably drawn up by D. Griffith Davies, B.A., of Bangor; came to light in a second-hand bookshop at Hitchin. On title page: 'A list of the Prehistoric, Roman and Medieval Remains in Anglesey and Caernarvonshire. Also, sundry archaeological notes.' Arranged alphabetically under parishes (Aber - Ysbytty Ifan) and sub-headings, e.g. 'hut-circles.' 'fortified enclosures,' etc. Contains very detailed notes on Bangor, e.g. cathedral, medieval houses, etc. Various letters to G.R. inserted.
Vol.II: 'Plans,' including printed map of the diocese of Bangor, plans of Bangor cathedral, Clynnog church, site of Roman remains at Caernarvon, various prehistoric Romano-British fortifications.
At the end are various notes on monuments and churches, including tracings of tiles from Bangor cathedral and specifications for the repair of the cathedral, 1824. |
