Disgrifiad | The papers begin with a legal opinion of W.E. Taunton, 16 Novr., 1819, which emphasised the difficulty of affecting rights of turbary either by interruption or impounding. Amongst the collection is a letter of April 16, 1742 proving how old the problem was, and the apology (Feb. 10, 1820)of a Peter Thomas of Glascoed for carrying a gun on the common. The scene shifts to 1845, when the Rev. H.W. Jones of Pentir asserted the claims of his tenants to turbary rights, followed by counsel's opinion (W.H. Watson, Sept. 11, 1845)on the pros and cons of that contention. The question in its early stages was much confused by the mamy doubts about the exact boundaries of Bangor and Llandegai parishes (see two plans, 781-782). In the schedule containing a list of docts (775), no 6 in the list, the opinion of S.M. Phillip, has not been preserved, while Mr. Watson's name is down as Watkin. Ten papers in all. |
