DisgrifiadThis envelope contains a bundle of 3 letters, handwritten notes and a leaflet relating to the men who are receiving parochial relief in parishes across Carnarvonshire. This is discussed in a letter from E.G.C Pennant to Mr. Evans where he states that his workmen are well paid and looked after. There are various drafts of this letter that follow. The letter from Richard Owen Williams, Railway Officer to Mr. Pritchard, Postmaster discusses the parochial relief given to quarrymen and labourers after resuming their work. This issue is also discussed in a letter from Mr. Wyatt to Lord Penrhyn, where Mr. Wyatt gives the results of his enquiries regarding the quarrymen who received parochial relief the year before. The bundle also includes handwritten notes relating to the topic, with pages titled, ‘Remarks of the Unease of the Poor Rates’, and, ’An Account of Men Belonging to the Penrhyn Slate Quarry receiving Parochial Relief during the year 1841’. There’s also a page titled, ‘Caernarvonshire County Rate Assessment 1841’ this with details of the rates for the parishes in Carnarvon, printed by Lewis Evan Jones, Bridge Street, Carnarvon.
