TeitlNewspaper cuttings relating to police and military intervention in the Penrhyn Strike
DisgrifiadOne envelope containing 129 newspaper cuttings relating to the military and police intervention of the Penrhyn quarry strike. Several articles say that there was a petition asking for military intervention, which was signed by 600 quarry workers. Most of the cuttings discuss how the British military were sent to Bethesda, by the home secretary, but soon had to return due to a vote in government which showed how unpopular the idea was. The articles suggest that military intervention was unnecessary as the strikers were mostly using peaceful forms of protest, although some report more serious offences caused by strikers, such as throwing stones at men who have returned to work as well as police men.
