TeitlLetters (5) from Mary Anne Jones, at St James' Palace (4) and Maidstone Inn (1), to her husband J J
DisgrifiadDescribes her journey to London; hopes to see her brother Tom [Painter]; urges J J to get a certain sum of £5 owed to him by John, her other brother [vide alibi]; approves of her uncle and aunt's apartment at St. James' Palace; she had caught a cold; much bustle at the Palace "on account of the Queen's drawing room"; she has had a good view of Lord Brougham; visited the Chapel Royal on Sunday, and from a vantage point in the organ gallery, saw the King and Queen, the Duchess of Saxe-Weimar and Prince George of Cambridge; the Bishop of London preached, and Sir George Smith was at the organ; her teeth have been troubling her. Has travelled to Maidstone via Bromley, Sevenoaks and Tumbridge, in company with brother Tom; hopes to return to London before the King and Queen do, as she would like some of her uncle's company - the Royal presence keeps him very busy all and every day. Details of her dental treatment; has visited Canterbury and seen Prince Talleygrand. She obviously misses J J very much, and writes most affectionately; enquires after friends; Tom is buying a horse for £50. She and her aunt have been to "the Exhibition" at Somerset House; is glad that John has paid the £5 at last - "it was almost more then I expected"; her health is still tricky; has visited the Painted Chamber of the House of Lords; the King's return procession from the Lords to the Palace "was not so much cheered as was expected"; is visiting the dentist every day and her toothache is much relieved; Tom is to take her to the Zoological Gardens, and Kensington Palace; is very anxious to return home, as she has missed J J very much. Must postpone her return, for further dental treatment, but intends travelling home on 8th July; to this end, bids J J "enquire if the Bang-up Coach goes every day".
