Description | Religious matters. 'I know some of the Welsh Baptists here, and am very sorry to hear of their low state ... It is very pleasing to me to hear so favourable a report as that which you give of the Welsh Baptists in the principality'. Has received a paper written by John Jones of Ramoth 'against the Spiritual Reign of Christ'. The writer, a prominent Sandemanian - Baptist, was minister of Windmill Street church, Finsbury, where he remained until his death in 1846. He also edited a seriesof denominational magazines and published a number of books (see Dictionary of Welsh Biography, p.524). The recipient, although described as 'Druggist', was in fact the founder of a pretty extensive business in general merchandise at Pwllheli; he was also a leading Baptist layman in the locality, as well as being deeply involved in the political affairs of the borough (see the excellent article on him by T.M. Bassett in Trafodion Cymdeithas Hanes Bedyddwyr Cymru, 1963) |
