AdminHistory | The transaction must have arisen from the provisions of the will of R.G.'s elder brother Edward, who divided most of his lands between his three daughters of whom the aforesaid Ellen was one (for his will, see Arch. Camb., 1800, pp.81-82). The Great Sessions were held at Caernarvon at that time, and a large company rode from Penrhyn to that town;; the witnesses in the doct. are divided between those who witnessed the entry and heard R.G.'s solemn declaration, and those who witnessed the entry only. One difficulty with the list of witnesses is that no less than three sons of R.G. are mentioned who are nowhere vouched for in the Pedigrees. One witness is down as William Lewis "alias Will lewys Sclatters" [i.e., held Felyn Sclattes by Llandegai]. |
