| Description | This includes correspondence relating to the affairs of Lord Penrhyn’s estates. Examples of some topics included are : North Wales Chronicle, Penrhyn quarrymen, tenants, sales connected to the estate, fishing notices and game, water supply at Penrhyn castle, writing slate works, Mortimer House, a poaching case, abatement of rent, Bangor college site and the Eisteddfod. Also, a rare reference to the "traitor notices" [Nid oes bradwr yn y tŷ hwn] displayed in the homes of striking quarrymen during the 1900-1903 strike (30 June 1901 and 24 July 1901)
There are also several notes included in the hand of Lord Penrhyn and a leaflet with details of an event held at penrhyn park- Military sports on 28 August 1901. There’s also a newspaper cutting included from the Manchester Guardian relating to Penrhyn quarrymen given notice to quit their houses. |
