TitlePenrhyn Quarry Valuation for Death Duties I 29 October 1951- 27 July 1954
DescriptionThis folder contains a collection of letters and documents between 1951 and 1954 relating to the Valuation of the Penrhyn Quarry business for Estate Duty after Hugh Napier Baron Penrhyn’s death. The folder mainly includes administrative letters relating to the valuation of the business as well as handwritten notes and figures. There are letters discussing the Accountant’s Valuation Report, which is also included in the folder. There are also two newspaper clippings included relating to shares of various companies and a clipping from the Evening standard dated the 28 January 1954 titled ‘1,250,000 hyphen’, which reports on a Miss Grizel Thomas, a 28-year-old lady of the manor of Thorpe in Staffordshire who has to inherit the estate and as a condition has to take the name Inge in which she decides to add with a hyphen to her surname. Also included in this folder is Counsel’s Opinion document dated February 1954 and a report titled, ‘Hugh Napier Baron Penrhyn Deceased Penrhyn Quarry Report and Valuation of Business as at 26th June 1949’.
