TitleLetter from William Bell in Edinburgh to Mistress Wodrow at Saltcoats, including a copy letter to W B from ?N. Hamilton at Manor Place
DescriptionTo Mistress Wodrow at Saltcoats, including a copy letter to W B from ?N. Hamilton at Manor Place, concerning Rev. Archibald Hamilton and his family. Includes surviving details of his ministry in Edinburgh (temp. 1692) during which he prosecuted his predecessor for the return of £200 "of the Poors Money" in the Bailie Court of Edinburgh. He was a pastor of great diligence and rigorous discipline. His successor was appointed in 1710, which gives a clue to the time of his death. No record of his marriage exists, according to the letter, but his daughter Sara's baptismal date is known as 1 October 1695. N. Hamilton's copy letter refers to an Archibald Hamilton who was the son of Gavin Hamilton of Airdrie, and who apparently appeared among the witnesses to a sasine of Lanarkshire properties of 1616, aged then about 33 years old. This cannot be the Rev. Archibald Hamilton of the Kenrick papers.
