TitleJournal of the 3rd John Kenrick of Wynn Hall, written on a voyage to America in the "Hope".
DescriptionA signed note in the hand of H.W. Kenrick on the inside cover explains that "This Book was written out from the original by my dear Mother for my benefit, sometime in the years 1898 to 1903". An introductory paragraph indicates that the said J K married Sarah Savage of London, a descendant of the Rev. Philip Henry, father of the "Commentator" Matthew Henry; that he had a number of children, one of whom was William who bought the Wynn Hall property from his other brothers and sisters; that the said J K did not reside at Wynn Hall at the time of his voyage, as his father was then living [there], and his own home was in Whitchurch, co. Salop. The journal runs up to 44 pages of manuscript, and a final paragraph gives further biographical details of the compiler and his family : that he was born in 1753; that his wife was 6 years his junior; that he died at the age of 70; that his wife survived him by 16 years; that his sister Sarah became Mrs Eddowes and had about 13 children; that her husband [Ralph?] was a determined champion of political liberty, and once took legal action against the Corporation of Chester, emigrating to Philadelphia in disgust after his failure.
